GEEKDOM.SOCIAL ADMIN NOTIFICATION
In light of the recent changes at Meta, I've decided to join the #Fedipact and block Threads. Sub-par moderation was one thing, active support of bigotry is one very different thing.
My decision is based on basic decency, but as an EU-based instance, there's also a legal angle that should not be ignored.

@mattly Many of the comments are implicitly about how you need to "grow up" and "think about your consumers" and I think this is a deeply depressing thing.
My background was clj-time, and the decision to violate my license around that code because people found it convenient to use my razor thin wrapper around jodatime, is why I quit open source participation with the understanding at any point in time, the community would come along and bully me and barring that steal from me.
I've been emptying my mother's house after she passed away in March. It's a very sad but necessary process.
One of the happier aspects though is that I've inherited her bakestone. I've got my own but making pice ar y maen (#Welsh Cakes) on hers is a totally different thing.
My dad used to work in an iron foundry. He took my grandmother's stone to work and hand cast a copy for my mother, which she used constantly. This one very special, magical object holds so much #connection to my family. ❤️
For all those who live without hope, who suffer from the dread of what tomorrow may bring, who struggle with the challenges around them, no this one thing.
My flight into ORD yesterday arrived early. there was no traffic enroute to my event location. And it looks like my flight out will depart EARLY.
Yes, the stars do sometimes align in odd unexpected ways.
I tried following her quite a while ago.
And I got the same thing.
My guess is that it isn't just you.
Her account might be set up to approve follows — but she might not be reviewing her follow-requests.
Here is my #introduction (a few days late) w/hashtags: I'm a #journalist, #author and staff #writer w/National Geographic who covers #science, #climatechange and the #environment——mostly #forests and #prairies and #oceans and #deserts and the #Arctic an #Antarctica and #mountains and, well, anything not inside a human-built thing.
My favorite story (if I had to choose one): The time I traveled, in 2019, to Cape Horn w/a team of scientists to find the southernmost #tree on Earth.
