@revk Being born in the USSR I find it really funny how a lot of soviet things are portrayed. One of the most obvious things is public phones which never ever had incoming numbers assigned to them so there was absolutely no way anyone could call it. You could also only dial numbers within the city or a region. If you wanted to make an overseas call you'd have to go to the postoffice, pre-book your call and use one of the booths assigned to you to get connected.
