   The U.S. #FCC has issued a notice of rulemaking concerning a proposal to allow direct-to-mobile communications between #satellites and the ground.

   If new rules take effect, it would be pretty bad for radio #astronomy. And it would directly undermine the concept of Radio Quiet Zones.

   The notice is publicly available on https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-400678A1.pdf but has not been published in the Federal Register. When it is, a 30-day public comment period will commence.
