   An off-screen conductor is leading a rehearsal and addresses the musicians.

   The off-screen singer complains that they are rushing.

   The conductor alerts them that the master (/maestro) wishes to speak.

   Depardieu, as an elderly Marais, says: "All the notes should finish by dying." He falls back asleep.

   The conductor says, "You heard him: let them die."
