I once wondered the same, and had it explained to me with this. It's gross, of course, and largely a tremendous and massive cope that will blow away once the guy does enough push-ups. It's a shirk, a retreat, a quitting wrapped in nice words to feel like never fighting the most important battle of your existence is a high-minded, noble affair.
We actually had a big argument about this, because it spiraled beyond the scope of just "living for a waifu"... I just don't find much honor in the monastic life, no matter how gussied up it is, no matter how much tradition is built up around it. I see the vow of childless, abstinent life to be an abrogation to the duty held to our ancestors to see the family line through to the end of days.
No matter how high-minded sacrifice is, you're still killing off hundreds of thousands of would-be children from the family. It'll always carry the scent of vanity throw them on the pyre and derive the benefit for yourself - they are not your lives to sacrifice, because your life is theirs, too
