Tweet from Hannah Riley / @hannahcrileyy@twitter.com Georgia is considering legislation that would disallow groups (like bail funds and other nonprofits) from bailing out more than three people PER YEAR from jail. this follows the wrongful arrest of three bail fund organizers in Atlanta last year. Every year since I’ve moved to Georgia (in 2017!) the legislature has come up with increasingly cruel and shocking ways to keep people in cages. @southerncenter (and many more) fight it every year at the Capitol It’s obvious that this is a reaction to protest movements, particularly Cop City. this legislation would mean that if you get arrested protesting, bail funds/ nonprofits can no longer bail you out. a foundational way we keep each other safe is being threatened here.

Everyone should at least consider the idea that the law is constantly remade to prevent social change.

That many effective strategies will be criminalized precisely because they are effective.

That, therefore, one should never confuse legality with morality.
