"For the first time, social media use might actually be declining. And that's probably a great thing!" - Futurist Jim Carroll
Some months ago, I became a first-time grandfather, and I must say, these are some of the most magical moments of my life!
But you wouldn't know it by my social media posts, because I haven't been posting any pictures.
And in fact, you probably won't see many photos of my grandchild online, all at the same time that my engagement with the online world continues to decrease. So I'll share, for a moment, this moment of joy that is my life at this moment!
My lack of posting comes at the request of the parents of the child, my son and his wife. Through a few conversations, they politely but firmly made it known that they were not supportive of sharing the child on social media.
I'm respecting that.
I'm also learning a lot.
It's become fascinating to me to realize that while they grew up with social media - MSN, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr - they've also come to almost entirely reject it going forward. In fact, other than their momentary scrolling of news feeds, they rarely post anything online, let alone engage. There was one single birth announcement that went out that made it " Instagram-official."
Think about that - the first social media generation seems to be rejecting social media going forward. And that's not just my own observation - it was recently covered in a comprehensive but barely noticed report in the Financial Times earlier this month. Time on social media actually began to peak in 2022!
With this, I've come to challenge my own involvement with social media and have dramatically scaled back as a result.

Notes on the Ninja Single Serve Pods or Grounds coffee maker.
This is the most obviously cad-cam designed item I've ever owned.
It would be spectacular if molded with steel.
Much of it could be 3D printed.
The coffee is hotter than the Keurig ever brewed. After writing all of this, it is still as warm as the Keurig brews were, at their hottest.
It has an algorithm to determine the temperature water boils at, in case you live in Denver or Salt Lake City. I don't happen to, but if you do, calibration is an added step in the initialization process.
That might have something to do with how hot the brew is. I didn't run the calibration. It is a bit steamy at a couple of hundred feet above sea level. Not excessively. It could probably steam up a sauna at altitude.
My disposable k-cups do not fit. They have finger holds at the top that are too wide for the k-cup adapter. Boo. Hiss.
It comes with its very own scoop so that the manufacturer has the ability to let you know how much ground coffee to add. 2 scoops for this brew.
It took a solid hour to unbox it, clean it, and run a first, water-only, 24 oz brew. 5 minutes of that was spent getting glue and thread off of part of the unit when the packing tape shredded instead of came off in one spot.
Its included brewing basket is nice. Easy to clean. I can live without reusable k-cups.
What I used for a 24 oz brew was too small. It definitely serves proper sizes. The tall mug I'm drinking from now holds 10 oz nicely.
There are more brew sizes available than with the Keurig. I like that a lot.
It pauses during brewing, and restarts, more than once. The resulting Classic brew is likely richer-flavored than it would be otherwise.
It has more options and costs about half the price of the Keurig I used to use, which becomes my emergency spare now, in need of deep cleaning.
At first blush, this is a nice machine.
One of our best friends almost bought me a puppy and brought it over, but thankfully they didn't because I'm not quite ready yet.
Instead, we'll be having drinks together this weekend and celebrating Drakes life with a lot of people who knew and loved him.
We haven't been able to go out since 2022, because Drake had severe separation anxiety, so I am looking forward to this a lot.
It's okay to move on, we won't ever forget you buddy ❤️
To conflate the two *automatically* introduces decentralization-washing. I don't think this is intentional, but it explains a lot.
It explains how a "weak" definition of decentralization could come from one of the boldest visions of what that very *idea* could be
@hacks4pancakes @Lazarou @munin Timing matters so much for this. We moved before just before the Brexit vote to France, we also timed our application for Article 50 residency really carefully. We sacrificed a lot.
It does take time, patience and money. The earlier you plan and start the better.
@pedro I'm checking the katana amps from boss. But I just notice the good one costs quite a lot.
It costs 3~4x the Joyo's pedal. But there are a lot more of effects.
