"[I]n the 2024 iteration of the survey, 51 percent of scientists polled were worried about potential “hallucinations,” a widespread issue in which large language models (LLMs) present completely fabricated information as fact. That number was up to a whopping 64 percent in 2025, even as AI use among researchers surged from 45 to 62 percent.

Anxiety over security and privacy were up 11 percent from last year, while concerns over ethical AI and transparency also ticked up.

In addition, there was a massive drop-off in hype compared to last year, when buzzy AI research startups dominated headline after headline. In 2024, scientists surveyed said they believed AI was already surpassing human abilities in over half of all use cases. In 2025, that belief dropped off a cliff, falling to less than a third.

These findings follow previous research which concluded that the more people learn about how AI works, the less they trust it. The opposite was also true — AI’s biggest fanboys tended to be those who understood the least about the tech.

While more studies are needed to show how widespread this phenomena is, it’s not hard to guess why professionals would start to have doubts about their algorithmic assistants."

@gabrielesvelto why are people not pinning specific commit hashes of deps that they've tested and validated? Supply chain issues aside there might be breaking changes in a new version that will mess things up.

In ngscopeclient we heavily use git submodules which inherently pin specific commits of dependencies

Turns out the sun down was just an eclipse, after which the machine turns back on and the Selenites wake up.

In a bit of foreshadowing, we see a lens directing the sunlight to the machine.

OK, *this* is an important point. Characters in #TheLordOfTheRings are constantly "despairing", but to despair is not necessarily to give up.

In the story we see *three* reactions to despair. Frodo, Faramir - in fact, most of the principle cast - each feel a sense of hopelessness at some point, but continue to push forward. Some characters are overwhelmed and do nothing - this is Theoden, when we first meet him. And some actively subvert the heroes - see Denethor and Saruman.

Our boys nicely screwed the ZSU base in Sudzha. I had orgasm.

Update: this is Toropets in Tver oblast’. Sorry, didn’t check. Partial evacuation was announced, that’s fucked up.

In Telegram jargon it’s a phenomenon known as “4:19 4:20” reflecting timestamps of another similar Russian mil-blogger in the past. At 4:19 he reported something like “haha here’s Ukrop turned into mince meat, die bitch” only to publish a 4:20 update “sorry, that was our guy, eternal memory brother”.

    Encouraging for #climate:

97% of new US power plants are carbon-free. The US is pretty much only building #cleanenergy these days, & mostly solar & batteries -but the pace still needs to pick up.

In the 1st half of this year, developers & power plant owners built 20.2 GW of electricity gen. capacity, a 21%⬆️from the 1st half of last year.

The majority of new capacity added this year is from solar, battery storage, wind, & nuclear projects.
