so, I got so mad at corporate america, basically laundering money and handing it right to CEOs, regardless of what company it was like choosing between "Just plain Evil" and "Really Bad", I decided that I wanted to invest in my city, but it had to be something super stable, since it's my retirement.

Well.... I bought a 4 plex of rent controlled units. It doesn't make any money, but I think in 20yrs it will be some income and maybe something I can leave my kids.

However, no matter how good intentioned, I still get the "you're profiting off my labor" type of vibe from people.

Is there actually a good way to invest in your own city that's low risk and will provide for the family when I'm old and unable to work? I can't count on medicare and SS being around.

Wtf is someone supposed to do when you truly believe there are zero good options on the stock market, and an IRA is just a bunch of stocks by proxy?

Is it good that Trump & cronies can lean on a network like that? No, not at all.

Will it really stick? Doubtful. Will it intimidate anyone who is serious about the truth into silence? I don't think so. Not quite so easily. Some people will shut up & go along more often, but that was always going to happen sooner rather than later with those people.

Is this all out of the fascist playbook? Yes.
Are Trump et al good at these plays? No, they fucking aren't.

There is no objective measure of when you should offer healthcare to people.

Is there a treatment, that is too expensive for a single person? How do you set that limit?

I don’t think it all has to be this bad.

In a better world, the folks writing job descriptions are good psychologists and good social scientists: neither hiding the hiring process from teams nor dumping in the laps of engineers who have no idea how to run a good one, but instead collaboratively understanding the needs of teams and then using their knowledge of humans and human systems to find the best people.

Is that too much to ask? I’m fairly cynical, but dammit, I don’t think it is.

    /end

had two days now of trans mascs on Instagram argue that to talk about the patterns of behaviour exibited by men within our misoginistic society is to harm trans mascs and we shouldn't do it as #Trans people.

Is it just me or does this feel like #NotAllMen with extra steps?
