    Okay, I've mentioned this a few times, but let's talk about The Orange Alternative. It's Poland in the 80's and an art history student noticed that when someone would paint an anti-authoritarian message, it would very quickly get painted over by the government. He decided to paint a dwarf with an orange hat any time he'd see the white paint that covered these messages. Soon other people were doing the same. They embraced this kind of absurdism, what the government was doing was ridiculous, so they leaned into it. The paintings of dwarves soon became organized street parties. They would all wear orange pointy hats and walk through the streets with banners, chanting Dwarf Dwarf Dwarf! They would pool what little extra funds they had together and buy things that people needed like toliet paper and tampons, and would have street fairs with food and dancing, and hand them out. At Christmas, they would dress as Santas, and do the same. The police were flummoxed by what to do, if they arrested people for wearing hats and giving out tampons, they looked foolish and would be embarrassed, not sure what to do with these surreal forms of protest.

    There is so much more to this, definitely read up on it, but it was an effective form of protest, creating community, spreading joy and absurdism, because authoritarian governments are absurd. Protests are going to look like a lot of different things, and this is just one of them.

    In Russia, they have created Little Picketers, tiny rough clay figures holding banners, that they press into people's hands to remind them, that they aren't alone.

    So, don't believe the propaganda, you aren't alone in caring, you aren't alone in wanting a different world, put on your goofiest hat, and let people know they aren't alone either.

    @whitequark The same reason I work on teams where we code review each others' work. Together we're faster and better than alone.

    So far, getting AI to *write* good code has been challenging, but I'm learning how to use it better and so keep trying.

    On the other hand, getting AI to *review* code well has been extremely easy, and it very often finds things I miss (and I find things it misses). It's a multiplier, not a replacement.

    (Next experiments will probably be to have AI review AI code.)

    @WestLawns @SeaFury Yeah.

    It's alright if you have "general" interests but if you like some specific things like certain sports or even specific video games, you're basically all alone.

    So I've fallen back to creating new corporate social media accounts to get that because the cross platform dream doesn't seem to be coming to fruition.😔

    @faab64 @israel YES.

    Daesh, Al-Qaida and Syria have a history of active aggression towards Israel. Calls of "USA the great satan and Israel the little satan" are not copyrighted only to the Huthis.

    Also, we can't tell yet what are the intentions of the Sunnis, and if they end up taking control of the government alone.

    So you're damn right we need to stay vigilant and defensive. the IRI and their proxies are not resting.

    The FAANGs all have a record of terrible investment decisions in the past 2 decades. Apple wasted $8Bn on driverless cars before they gave up. Meta spent by some estimates $100Bn pursuing the VR metaverse before they quit. Amazon lost $10Bn on Alexa in 2022 alone.

    So like gambling addicts everywhere, they've just moved on up to the top table (AI) and are doubling down.

    @admitsWrongIfProven

    You dont need to take from billionairs to give them money, we have more than enough to solve the problem in our military budget alone.

    So you are talking about hurting the economy (taking from wealth producers) to fund the poor. When you could be helping the economy (taking from wealth destroyers like the military) to give to the poor.
