I think it's probably the story structure that caused this problem for me.
On the one hand, switching between viewpoints allowed the mystery to unfold in a really cool way. It was a clever way to progressively reveal more & more while keeping the explanation for the end.
It really undermined the emotional heft of the story though. I didn't feel I got the chance to invest in the characters. I guess I felt the most for Alex, but you get so far into the film before getting to know him.
The leaves are changing outside my office and there is some termination dust visible on nearby mountains. I am not ready for summer to end.
It'll be another 4 to 6 weeks before winter gets here in earnest, but winter always comes in Anchorage. It's cold, it's dark, it lasts until May. I say I can't handle it, but I obviously can. I just don't want to.
Ten minutes to #Monsterdon !
Tonight: The First Men In the Moon (1964)
It has a woman, though! So: let's figure it's "woke for 1964"
I have watched the trailer, and I get the distinct impression I've seen the entire plot of the movie. People blast off to the moon, find aliens inside it, conflict occurs. The end.
It has all three kinds of people: Scientist, Man of Action, and Woman. Not expecting a Bechdel pass tonight. How about we go for a lower bar: do two people have a conversation about anything other than a Moon?
Yesterday I played Loom and managed to go to the end.
It is a game that made a great impression on me when I played it as a kid. One of the first I could complete all by myself.
Now I understand why: it is quite easy and incredibly short 😅.
Nonetheless it is a wonderful experience. The story is interesting and served by the most beautiful EGA graphics ever. And the music is sumptuous. 35 years ago it was one of the very first game I played after buying a Sound Blaster. I've loved Tchaikovsky ever since.
"This is not the end.It is not even the beginning of the end. This is a permanent, endless war designed not to destroy Hamas, or free Israeli hostages, but to eradicate, once and for all, Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. It is the final push to create a Greater Israel, which will include not only Gaza and the West Bank, but chunks of Lebanon and Syria. It is the culmination of the Zionist dream. And it will be paid for with rivers of blood"
