Once seen as a pioneer of homosexual rights, it appears that the Netherlands are slowly lagging behind most Western European countries when it comes to transgender rights. The 2023 edition of the Trans Rights Map awarded the Netherlands a score of 15/30, just slightly better than the infamous transphobic United Kingdom (scoring 14.25/30) and way behind most of its neighbours: Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain... all do noticeably better, scoring at least 20 out of 30.
