    “root causes”

    I hate linking to The Hill, but here we go:

    RFK Jr. says agency will reveal causes of autism in September

    No, he fucking won’t. He literally shut down actual studies working on such things, because as with all fundamentalist-approach cardboard science, anything he does is driven by producing the answer he wants, not any answer that’s actually real.

    So given all that, here’re a few key lies about “causes” I think we can expect:

    • “Overvaccination,” which isn’t a thing; it’s just a wedge to start rolling back vaccination in favour of “wellness” horseshit and pseudoscience that doesn’t fucking work;
    • High-fructose corn syrup, which in its most common formulation – for those who don’t remember – is chemically identical to honey. There’s literally not a way to tell filtered honey apart from 55/45 HFCS. This is also why filtered honey is fucking awful; once you filter out the water and the pollen remnants you don’t have any flavour other than sweetness.

      (This may be substituted out for artificial colours and/or flavours, he’s got bugaboos about those too.)

      And finally:

    • Hormone-based contraception.

    Yeah. I think there’s a pretty good chance they’ll go there. I can’t be sure – this is all speculation, I assure you – but it’s been floated around in christofascism on and off for a while. Not as strongly as other lies about “the pill” (christ they’re so old) causing breast cancer (again: a lie), and being an abortifacient (again: a lie). So why not here? Why not go for it?

    It has the added bonus of blaming the woman, which is another thing they always want to do.

    Maybe I’ll be wrong. Maybe they won’t. But he used one word in particular that makes me think I’m right. That word is “interventions,” as in “interventions” that cause autism. That’s a word I’ve heard plenty of times before when fundamentalists talk about birth control, and also by the new age crowd that merged in with them, calling hormonal birth control an “unnatural intervention.” In other words, both upstream forks of his anti-vax “wellness” following have a history of using that word to describe hormonal birth control.

    And here it is again. That word. “Intervention.”

    Really could be a coincidence; really, genuinely could. That word is used by a lot of actual medical people for good and real medical treatments; it’s not one of their own made-up words.

    But … they really do have a history of using it that way. And the orange fuckfash muttered on about “a drug or something” as the intervention at work, so… yeah.

    I’m smelling an attack on birth control.

    They’ve really been wanting to go at it, and given the increased… severity in tone… that we’re seeing out of the fascists, it feels like they’re slamming the metaphorical pedal to the metaphorical metal, and they might just go ahead and go for it.

    Stock up on your meds, folks. Clock’s ticking.

    @zy --

    It is a word that means, "One that poses."

    Posing is standing or facing a camera to "show what you want seen on film" and not what is real.

    So a Poser is an older 80's term for a fake person that was popularized in fashion and surfer language before it went everywhere.

    Personally believe Blondie had a lot to do with that specific slang jump.

    The "genius" move is to architect your code in such a way that the number of places where a variable might be nil is extremely low. The "genius" move is to consider using patterns like "null object" if you really do need to be explicit about something not being real.

    So much of programming is like this: We build up libraries of patterns to manage and sanitize problems rather than lifting our point of view and removing the problems.

    This is b/c Trump supporters are sycophants and so they don't really pay attention to anything real.

    So ya, they are maybe not really smart, otherwise they would want to learn the truth.

    I'm going to give one of my usual nuancebro takes that pisses everybody off at once, so get your pants on: not all faggots are pedophiles or public sex degenerates or whatever. That's the "NAXALT" part that rightoids hate. But here's the part the leftoids hate: enough faggots are these kinds of things to merit faggotry being taboo.

    So while I do understand there are fags out there who just want to do their butt stuff in private and have an otherwise normal life. But I also understand that slippery slope is only a fallacy when it's false, and in the case of gaymosexual shit, the slippery slope is absolutely real.

    So. Ban fags, aggressively.

    I find it interesting that everyone believes that K is not “the child”. I think he most definitely is. Or at least, “a child”. Let me explain

    So, there was the immunocompromised scientist who is known as the best memory maker. She said that the point of implanting memories is to give the robots positive moments to look back on, so that’s the first thing that debunks the idea that K’s memory of the wooden horse was an implant; no one would implant a memory about a child getting bullied.

    But that’s not all. K ended up finding the horse in the same place that he put it in his memory, in the furnace of the orphanage. This means that he grew up in the orphanage, meaning that he was a kid once, and his memory was real.

    So, in my opinion, there’s no way he’s NOT the child, as he’s a replicant, and we only know that one exists.

    But here’s another thing: the person who the characters accept as the child, the scientist, is immunocompromised. Now how the heck could a robot get sick? It couldn’t.

    My opinion is that they used the scientist as a cover; calling a real human “the child”, and telling everyone that, behaving as such, and then placing the real child in an orphanage with sketchy record-keeping processes means that only one person truly knows that the immunocompromised woman isn’t the child, and since she’s shut in and no one is allowed to interact with her in person/physically, very few people would even know whether or not she’s a replicant.

    The other alternative is that K is the child of another two replicants. I actually think that the Tyrell company was secretly designing replicants that could reproduce independently but that feature didn’t work properly or reliably, explaining why the child could have been created in the first place. This could open the door for other children to exist in the universe, although they would bee extremely rare and hard to find. But still, there’s the immunocompromised plot hole.
