Way back in 2001, back when I was still a NYT subscriber, I’d signed up for email alerts.
One day, I opened up my email to a news alert: “Plane Crashes Into World Trade Center”
As I was staring at it in confusion, a second alert arrived: “Type headline here”
That bit of grim humor has always stuck with me.
