However, calling everyone on Twitter a Nazi or friend of Nazis is incredibly insidious because there are marginalized people still on there for the communities they've built that would be destroyed if they left. And no, the fedi is not a drop-in replacement: among other issues it's often been a horrendous experience for racialized people, and in fact we're going through one of those spikes right now. Also this is far from the only time Aral has been crappy. He's used his marginalized European ethnic identity as a shield to deny he has white privilege and to dismiss a Black man's callout.

Don’t you just love it when an anonymous American (you know, the folks who bomb Brown countries) labels you—a white-presenting guy with two Middle Eastern parents—as someone with “marginalized European ethnic identity” (hey, fellow Turks, now we know what we are because some asshole American just learned us; ain’t that great?)
