@randahl @anderspuck @EUCommission Meta is literally seen as a gatekeeper company by the EU. Mastodon (Social) is not, nor are they being threatened with billions of dollars in fines over user privacy issues.
It’s a legal issue with real world financial consequences if Meta messes up. Apple is in a similar situation as well, which is why they are not offering Apple Intelligence in the EU anytime soon.
Please stop saying we should wear masks "when appropriate."
COVID surges throughout the year, and other viruses, pollution, wildfire smoke etc. are also significant health issues.
It is ALWAYS appropriate to wear a mask.

A personal observation that I dislike is it seems many of the Sharkey instances experience issues.
It is a shame, because I do like Sharkey. But one of the reasons I kept hopping from one instance to another instance is I would join these so-called well-known instances, only for them to have some issues.
Mastodon is "OK". I dislike that you cannot move your post with Mastodon. I have a backup of all my content on my local PC which I can port into any Sharkey instance, but Mastodon moving means starting over.
This isn't even the cause for the fault I opened the speaker up to fix (a fucky TDA7265 amp chip that that I was going to either cut a pin on or replace), but it certainly explains the extraneous noise when testing
Might still use it as recapping practice if I don't find too many other costly issues.
It's an eight year old pair of Mackey CR3s, and the reason they sound so good for the money is because the components are the bargain basement versions when it comes to durability.
I have some much nicer speakers to repair, but I'd like to get past the "accidentally stabbing something important with a soldering iron" stage of getting my hand back in on something less precious.
Fuck knows I certainly can't afford to buy new speakers right now.
@mcnado @freemo After reviewing the CDC reporting, the complications possibly caused by infection would result in the stated cause of death to be from COVID-19. It further points out that the long term effects resulting in death would be considered a COVID-19 death.
The situations leading to death weren't properly addressed. Regardless of proper classification, the likely damage from the virus was rightfully included. I suppose I was expecting ARS to be the cause of the deaths and, to a lesser degree, cardiovascular issues.
It seems more inclusive for contributing factors of a COVID death but not necessarily represented correctly. The car example was dismissed incorrectly. According to the guidelines, if COVID-19 contributed to the circumstances then it would indeed be reported as a COVID-19 death even if the subject could have lived if they weren't driving. It's these small things that make me question the data.
Cause, Contributing factor and the Others should be separated. It sounds like the virus directly killed so many people. It just seems misleading to call them all COVID deaths when it would be better to describe them as Covid and common complications deaths.
