“What if I accompany you?” Randall was surprised by his own words. What was he even thinking? Something in seeing Lix like that, vulnerable, haunted by the idea of visiting her family had touched him. Not that she ever not touched him. Lix was the woman he had fallen in love with so many years ago and no matter how hard he had tried, he wasn’t able to feel any different towards her. But he had come to a peace treaty with himself. He wouldn’t pursue to get her back, anymore. This was in the past. He would stay here, as Head of News at The Hour and in her vicinity, but personally, he would not stand in her way. She should pursue whatever she wanted to pursue, and he would not get involved. He would only step up if there was anything this weird, obsessed wreck of a man could do to support her efforts. That was the only reason he had shown up in her office, now. Because the way she behaved the last 3 days seemed so odd, so different from her usual self. And not in a good way. He usually wasn’t good with sensing people’s emotions, but he knew Lix. He had learned to read her, all the things she did, all the things she liked, all her gestures and facial expressions. And so, he was quite sure: something was not okay. He wanted to offer his support if she needed it. And obviously something in his weird brain had just decided that he could support her if he offered this. “You, Randall?” Lix set down the whisky bottle before she had poured herself a glass, again a sign she was not okay.
