Larson: The Far Side and Dennis the Menace used to be side by side in the Dayton Daily News. One day, back in August of 1981, someone “accidentally” switched their captions. What’s most embarrassing about this is how immensely improved both cartoons turned out to be. A Far Side comic with a family of snakes sitting around the dinner table. There is a plate of hamsters in the middle. The disgusted-looking child snake says "Lucky thing I learned to make peanut butter sandwiches or we woulda starved to death by now." Dennis The Menace is eating sandwiches with his friend. His mom is in the fireground, eqavesdropping on them with a sour expression as she hears Dennis say "Oh brother!... Not hamsters again!" The implication is that she seems upset that they did not appreciate her hamster sandwiches.
