A bad-screen PowerBook 160, with a monitor attached showing the desktop and cursor, but no menu bar or icons since it isn't the main monitor

Question: how would you get this PowerBook 160 to boot with its main screen as the external monitor? If I made a bluescsi HD image with the correct monitor selected on a similar functioning PowerBook, would the setting stay with the HD or is it a PRAM thing? Or is there a secret keyboard command for mirroring?
