Juneteenth is a combination of the words June and nineteenth, the day of the celebration. The holiday is also called Emancipation Day or Freedom Day. What is Juneteenth's History? June 19th observes the day when federal soldiers reached Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and confirm that all enslaved people were free.
