I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this, but poast got hacked today. Here's their admin summing it up. What we need to be aware of is this could happen to us. Spinster is in a pretty sheltered bubble but there's always potential someone targets here. A few steps to take for your privacy are:
-Make sure you're not using an email associated with anything about you. You can change your email in settings. Proton Mail is a good place to make an email without having to put in a number.
-Do not put anything in your DMs you wouldn't want to be made public. You can delete your messages you've sent to someone now if you have. An alternative to talking to someone more is discord. It's an app and you can use any username for it. They also have a desktop version. It's also worth noting that admins can read your messages.
-Make sure you use a password on here you don't use for anything else. On that note, make sure all of your passwords are different. There are free password managers you can use to keep track of them.
-Turn on two-step verification if you really want to be secure. You can use an authenticator app that isn't tied to a phone number or anything.
-Try to get a VPN. I suggest Mullvad VPN. It's five dollars a month and is very private. You can't even make a login for it. They give you a code because they don't want to know anything about you.
-Finally, be aware of the people around the fediverse, even your admins. There's a lot of connections between one another, and untrustworthy practices. Like using tracking cookies on your account. I'm not saying our admin is doing that, but there is ability to do so.
Hope this helps.
