For scientific conferences, the mood is very much like the first two weeks of March 2020: we feel that a travel stop is coming soon, we just don't know when it will be, and most people don't really want to start planning for it until it is in effect.
This being said, a scientific conference that takes place *next week* has authorized, as of this morning, remote presentation for all speakers who request it.

Since it's the season, remember: a good phd thesis is a submitted PhD thesis.
A great PhD thesis is a defended PhD thesis.
