A massive thank you to all who responded to our previous post and our request for financial help.
We have since received the legal advice regarding the OSA, and the news is indeed good.
If you are interested, perhaps you also run a chat service, and want to know more, we have written a new post about our understanding of the advice we got at https://libera.chat/news/advised
At our last MGM, we approved paying for legal advice about the UK's Online Safety Act. While we can afford this bill… it is just one bill. Laws like this are multiplying. So as awkward as this is, we are asking for help. See https://libera.chat/news/advice for more context.
Is your favourite project an open secret on Libera.Chat? We've just rolled out some changes that will help folks decide if their channel visibility is correct. An overview of these features can be found at https://libera.chat/news/visibility
It is time for us, as volunteers running a real-time communication platform, to address burnout. Doing this is important for the future of our work, and we will be leveraging ✨emerging technologies✨ to achieve it.
Update: This was our April 1st 2025 prank. It was a reminder that burnout is real, especially in volunteer efforts, and that it has no easy answers. This is also a protest about the social burden created by LLMs - often trained using questionable ethics - including on the quality of support resources. And sometimes with the ultimate goal of replacing real human interactions that make communities like ours so special. <3
Hello! We're excited to announce that we're going to undertake a rebrand which will more accurately reflect the community here on the network. Please take a moment to purruse our work in progress redesigned website at https://libera.cat
Hello fellow FOSS folk! As you might know, we rely on donations to keep Libera.Chat running.
In this regard we have great news today: We partnered up with FreeWear.org to distribute official Libera.Chat merch. So if you want to donate to us and get fancy gear in return, this is a great opportunity. You can buy cool t-shirts and hoodies, more items will arrive later. For every item sold, we get a donation. Details are at https://libera.chat/news/freewear-libera-merch and our shop is at https://www.freewear.org/Libera.Chat. Enjoy!
Problems using Matrix on Libera.Chat have been reported over recent days, impacting projects. The @matrix bridge is one-way in some rooms & message delivery can't be guaranteed. We have communicated to EMS on this matter and hope they have a resolution ASAP.
