Puye was one of the ancestral villages of Santa Clara, San Ildefonso and Ohkay Owingeh Pueblos, occupied from about 900 AD to 1580 AD. The site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966. There are extensive ruins at the base of the cliffs and on top of the mesa, with outstanding examples of early Pueblo architecture and stunning panoramas of the Rio Grande valley. The sheer number of cliff dwellings at Puye, and how far they extend, is overwhelming, indicative of a large community.

During the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, Route 66 was the primary route for the migration of farm workers from the Midwest to California. It was one of the original highways in the U.S. Numbered Highway System, completed on November 11, 1926.

Each of the VLA’s 28 antennas (incl. the one that is a spare) is an 82-foot dish w/ 8 receivers tucked inside. The wider an array is, the bigger its eye is, and the more detail it can see out in space. The iconic “Y” shape provides 3 long arms, with 9 telescopes each. Three times a year, a rail truck, called a Transporter, picks up telescopes and hauls them one at a time down their track. Over the course of 16 months, the VLA lengthens each of its legs from two-thirds of a mile to 23 miles long.

#Roadrunners are vicious #birds of prey. They kill their prey by bludgeoning their victims to death. They will eat virtually anything they can catch: insects, spiders (including black widows and tarantulas), scorpions, bats, mice, small birds (including hummingbirds), lizards, and small snakes (including venomous snakes, like small rattlers).
