It seems like the internet connection on the server hosting our source code has died.
-> Source.mapcomplete.org will not be reachable, we are working on a fix, but this might take a few days.

The end of an era. The move of our repo to a #selfhosted @forgejo is now completed, the #github repo has been archived!
For the past few months, we've been working on decreasing our dependence on #bigtech - most notably, our dependence on #Microsoft via #Github.
We've been experimenting with @forgejo (which is very enjoyable), setup the build proces on our own hardware.
Since yesterday, the main instance is also hosted by #hetzner. There are still a few dependencies, but the main hurdles have been taken!
We would also like to #welcome all people joining us today! If you are switching over from #Twitter, #X, #Facebook, #Instagram: welcome into a truly federated social network.
While you've made the switch, consider also moving away from that other big corporation named #Google: a great alternative is #OpenStreetMap . There are many apps (such as @organicmaps or #osmand)
There are also a lot of maps about a specific topic. You can find a collection of them on https://mapcomplete.org
A new version of MapComplete is out!
This one features many bugfixes, such as not having blank screens on Chrome and some error recovery. Critical errors during data uploads are now logged remotely, giving @pietervdvn some insight in what happens and which allows some data recovery.
Furthermore, a #barbeque and #firepit theme has appeared: https://mapcomplete.org/fireplace
A new version of MapComplete is out - version 0.40
And it has a _huge_ update: it now shows the number of relevant POI in a region, giving the map a non-empty feel when zooming out - and it loads the data directly.
It is also really cool to discover outliers and isolated hamlets...
This required a _big_ server to calculate all those number; @pietervdvn was very lucky and got one donated which had the required amount of RAM (>80GB) and HDD on board, transported ecologically...
Over 11.000 (that is: eleven _thousand_) changesets have been made with MapComplete in 2022. That is amazing!
Thanks a lot to everyone involved!
MapComplete is a web-based easy to use OpenStreetMap-editor. This is the official account on Mastodon.
