We trudged single file, keeping close to the trees, though unable to blend in. It seemed a long night. The Swift Star shot by twice. Bats arrived frequently, whipping over our heads, sometimes dipping. More of my body solidified, all the joints and crevices, until movement felt alien. I pushed ahead, afraid to stop and get stuck, like a boulder set to weather years. On the plus side, the cold no longer bothered me, any more than it bothered rocks.

From The Wilder World:
“To the void!” We drank together.
The void answered. Rain beat on the deck. Our boat rattled and the wind screamed. Only our community kept it at bay. Hours passed. We discussed concerns of mages, living organized things, not gropings of mindless chaos. The interior of the ship glowed with a shield of mutual design, our sanctuary amid a world of storm.

#Today is my birthday (hold applause ?) It's not such a big deal at my age, except to say "Wow, you're still here?" It is, however, a good excuse to do whatever I damn well please. My husband & I are going to have a drive out to look for super blooms after all this rain. Maybe I'll get some good photos for my Insta account (yes, yes, an indie author is always writing or marketing or thinking about writing or marketing ?) Hope you all have a great day!
