Anderson Cooper had on a former Israeli intel chief who said, "The noncombatant population in the Gaza strip is really a nonexistent term because all of the Gazans voted for Hamas, and...most of the population in the Gaza strip are Hamas."

Cooper didn't push back.

Again, #Hamas won an election with 44.5% of the vote 17 years ago, before around half of the population of #Gaza were born, and then seized complete power in a bloody civil war with Fatah.

Israel's stated goal of completely eradicating Hamas necessitates committing war crimes as there are an estimated 25-30k Hamas fighters deeply entrenched within a civilian population of over 2 million. Proportionality and the protection of civilians are impossible when the objective is to eliminate every one.

It's a classic example of a mismatch between political goals and military capability.

There are a lot of people who are wildly anti semitic and also strongly “pro-Israel” and that reality gets very little attention.

It’s a consequence of constantly conflating Israel with Judaism. If you’re getting called out for your vile anti semitism, some performative support for Israel is a handy deflection.

Also, they’re still calling this chud a “free speech absolutist” for some reason.

The press could tell an accurate story about how Biden's 50 yrs of legislative experience helped him pass huge infra & green energy bills through a 50-50 Senate that contributed to a robust recovery. The feedback loop of a million stories about his age leading to a million stories about polls showing that voters worry about his age was an editorial choice.

Two things are true:

There's been an explosion of really vile #antisemitism, some coming from pro-Palestinian protesters. It's terrifying.

Calls for a ceasefire and condemnation of Palestinian civilian deaths are being labeled antisemitism, even when they come from Jews. It's slanderous.

These things feed into each other.

It's a terrible time to be a pro-Palestinian, anti-occupation Jew. We're really getting hit from all sides right now.

A friend of mine is having a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that a lot of white Evangelicals are both personally antisemitic and also staunch supporters of #Israel.

The #antisemitism directed at American Jews isn't only vile but it's also totally misplaced. Overwhelming majorities of us oppose settlements and favor the creation of a Palestinian state. Most of us hate Bibi and this Israeli gov. Israel ranks as our 10th most important issue, out of 14, in J Street polling.

It's fucking maddening. But I guess it's always the case that "dumb bigot" is redundant.

Mike Pence dropping out of the race reminds me that Mike Pence was in the race for some reason.

Massive anti-war protests being largely ignored by the legacy media is giving me a really powerful sense of deja vu.

Progressive Jews and Muslims have the most nuanced, historically grounded and empathetic views of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by far, but our voices are almost entirely drowned out by reactionaries on both sides. It’s so frustrating.

Hell, in the US media at least, there are no Muslims on the left. They don’t exist. There are only Islamic fundamentalists, or Islamists, and “moderate Muslims.”
