There is a simple semiotics around the missing billionaire submarine, and it has nothing to do with “culture wars.”

Since 2008, government and institutions have cultivated a reckless culture of socialized losses for the many and privatized reward for the few, enabling irresponsible billionaires to pursue ever greater risks and hand over the costs of failure to the rest of us.

Now a set of reckless billionaires have finally done something so stupid that nobody can bail them out. It’s notable.

I don't know about you, but my only reason for using the internet is to get thousands of repetitive advertisements related to any content I've posted, searched for or browsed. Such spam is deeply enriching to my user experience and allows altruists like Zuckerberg to make a modest income in exchange for improving an internet that was largely useless before spam. 😁

For example, the man in the linked article who robbed two drug stores in Marin County, California, is receiving ten years in prison. Jessica Watkins, the Oath Keeper terrorist who coordinated a major portion of the violent assault on the Capitol via walkie-talkie, received only 8.5 years.

Our legal system rates shampoo and razor blades as more important than the operation of our democratic government.

The federal prison sentences being handed down to Oath Keeper and Proud Boy terrorists for armed insurrection are generally signficantly shorter than what one would get for a felony smash-n-grab robbery. Rule of law continues to treat alt-right activists and the oligarchs who fund them as a privileged class.

@marcelias It is time to start shaming them. Not using euphemisms about "access" but rather clearly stating "my opponent is a racist who has boasted openly about disenfranchising voters of color."

If we don't start speaking plainly about this fascist movement, we will never defeat it.
