Given everything that happened to #RedHat under #IBM’s control, it makes me very uneasy that #Microsoft owns #GitHub… I pessimistically predict this will be the next big blow to #OpenSource that we’ll have to recover from.

@reiver while there are open source alternatives, there are a few problems. Someone has to foot the hosting bill, and like Twitter disintegrating, GitHub users have to build their how following backup again.

@reiver oh wow I was wondering if a fediverse type approach could work here. Just being able to up and move without being shackled down is just so important, we’re taking GitHub way too for granted.

@josephramoney @caseynewton it had other use cases. like sharing context of another users post or other positive reasons.
