It's apple time!

My guess is that there are at least 175 apples in the basket, and I haven't even brought out the ladder yet to get the ones high up. Another 60 or 70 apples have dropped off the tree as windfalls, which are only safe for cooking (if cleaned well). There are at least another to 100 to 150 apples still on the tree.

This is an excellent crop for a tree that is not much more than 12 ft/3.6 m tall.

The US Supreme Court has made it almost impossible to organize a mass protest in Louisiana, Texas, or Mississippi. By letting stand a decision by the right-wing Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, protest organizers are now legally and financially responsible for any illegal acts performed by anyone at that protest -- even if those acts are taken by counter-protesters.

Public library staff in an Alabama town have locked up the library and walked off their jobs after the library's director was fired. The director had refused to remove 113 books with LGBTQ+ content from circulation after being ordered to do so by a library board dominated by right-wing Christian fundamentalists.

The description of Threads in this article matches well with my experiences there. It shoves advertisers and influencers at you from your first moments there, while also making it hard to find the people you want to interact with and the content you want to see.

Despite all the complaints about Mastodon being confusing and hard to use, it was much easier (and faster) to build a feed that suited my needs here than on Threads.
