The older one is dressed in a merchant man's finery. The younger appears a bit ragged, and dusty from the field, but he is fiercely defiant. Lailah narrows her eyes, stepping closer to the shop to listen. FADE OUT. (End of Act I) Screen Time: The travel montage will eat up about three to four minutes of highly visual storytelling, backed by music. The discussion of the heat and the quest will take about three minutes of measured, deliberate acting, leaving a solid one minute buffer for the argument to escalate before cutting to the sponsor. Act II will be our longest block (8:30 runtime). This act must hook the audience immediately after the GenMat commercial break. We need to open with our focus entirely on the dispute between the two men.

Launching from Baikonur into a standard 51.6 orbit requires the rocket to fight its way further north. By avoiding high-latitude planar steering losses, the rocket becomes significantly more efficient. The standard Soyuz-U rocket of the 1970s had an LEO capacity of about 7,000 kg from Baikonur. From a 13.4 degree N site, the Soyuz-U's LEO capacity would easily lift a heavier 8,300 kg Soyuz. The Proton rocket''s massive, hypergolic-fueled first stage would drop roughly 90 to 120 km downrange. Launching from coastal Yemen, this stage falls safely into the deep waters of the Gulf of Aden. The second stage would drop roughly 300 to 500 km downrange. This places the drop zone in the Arabian Sea, just north of Socotra Island and completely clear of populated land.

The elevator is the new gravitic type, and Dornick neglects to read the sign to tuck his feet under a rail in the floor . A helping hand brings him back to the floor after he begins to float into the air to the amusement of the other passengers. When they arrive on the observation deck, the man with the helping hand follows Dornick out. There is only a horizon of metal against sky, no green to be seen except the 100 square miles of natural vegetation at the Emperors palace, which might be ten thousand miles away for all Dornick knew.
