@Moon Why are state prisons broken down first by type of crime but federal and local first by "convicted" or "not convicted" and only after that by type of crime? This and oither non-orthogonalities in the classification (like "type of crime" breaking into different categories in different parts of the diagram) make some comparisons difficult.
So, here's something that illustrates why people both like Donald Trump.
He says "you need voter ID to buy a load of bread" and that's obviously ridiculous. What a chump! Right? HuffPo quotes plenty of people saying he's out of touch.
How many people quoted by HuffPo have ever used SNAP, i.e. food stamps? Zero, I'm sure. But how many in his audience have done so?
On SNAP you actually do need a government-issued card to buy food. This is familiar to Trump's audience and not to HuffPo's.
Just realized that the two packages of sliced ham I bought yesterday, have their best-before date tomorrow. For a product that usually lasts several weeks, that's not what I expected. Should've read the label more carefully, I guess. And now it changes my menu plans.
I agree that it should be possible to do just normal Web things on Web sites. However, I don't like the framing as this being a thing the Web designer has a choice about. It should impossible for designers to prevent readers from doing normal Web things. The fact that it isn't, is the fault of browsers and, ultimately, users.
@pettter I'm also not sure I like the implications of "and only your needs." If you think network neutrality isn't vitally important for EVERYBODY, then fuck off.
My most important consideration is that I need to use an instance which will not block or be blocked by the instances my friends are on - which include without limitation all of mastodon.social, shitposter.club, and pawoo.net. And I have to be able to reasonably expect that that will remain true, and that the instance will remain in operation, for several years at least.
For an instance to really not be involved in the culture war at all shouldn't be a special request, but it seems to be.
