After toying with the idea of consolidating my VPSes and/or getting a dedicated server, throwing Proxmox on the thing and creating VMs, I did a price analysis and realized that multiple smaller VPSes at 4GB RAM are more cost effective than any higher specced server, virtual or dedicated.
So I decided to just install Cockpit on everything and link them together in a giant botn- errr personal server farm architecture. Slight resource overhead will definitely be offset by the cost savings.
Management: Why is this software project behind the schedule? It is late, and we are not happy about it.
PM: Hope is not a project management strategy.
Management: Excuse me?
Developer: He meant the original deadline was based on hope, not logic.
There are no big problems. Only people who don't know how to break down their problems into smaller, less scary, confrontable problems.
... Ew.
I was wondering why my n8n workflow would loop infinitely. Today upon closer inspection I realized I wrote a loop based on the results of a switch but only gave it error and loop conditions and no success case ๐คฆโ๏ธ
Find the system app. Can't disable it cos system app. ADB magic time and disabled. All is good. Now to cautiously use this device and dive into the other weird things I've seen on the firmware over time.
Device is an Anbernic RG406H for those curious. If you have the same device and no technical know how on how to do what I did, drop me a PM.
Decide to ADB in and check the root directory. Find that the app seems to be included in the firmware. Unfortunately I cannot nuke firmware because I've seen that they have some custom drivers and functions tied to the joysticks and buttons. Great.
At best, some debug mode function they forgot to disable before shipping. At worst... malware. Telemetry like functions don't inspire confidence.
Discover this file. Uh oh...
So gf bought me one of those android handheld game machines from China. I noticed device storage was being unusually filled. Dug a little and found a bunch of files under /device/emulated/0/ylog/. They are a bunch of .ylog files in this directory structure. Eh, whatever go deleting them
Real life job description I've seen recently:

@houfu actually NextCloud is extremely problematic resource wise and you should move away from it if possible. If you need SSO stuff to work can take a look at Authentik and Keycloak. I personally am lazy and just use Cloudflare Access on things I need publicly accessible but private.
Migrated from Sidekick to Zen Browser. Really loving the new experience and the fact that it's Firefox based so I don't have to worry about Ublock Origin and Manifest V3.
@houfu I suggest installing tailscale on your server and managing via that. More secure than raw IP addresses.
@houfu what happened?

Also the demo was unpaid because they kept saying they couldn't visualize how the changes would work.
I'm a freelancer, not an employee and I think that's the last time I'm doing any more work for free for this client.

Recently spent 4+ hours developing a demo for a client who requested changes to a specific Excel report to make it more organized and easy to update. After spending all that time doing the demo, I was informed that they reviewed it with their manager and it was decided that it was too big a change for their colleagues in other countries to get used to.
Why tf would you ask me to change something then decide it's too large a change?
I honestly cannot understand EPL loyalty and fandom in Singapore ๐
@mustardsauce the URL that the "hackers" shared was something like (you're gonna need to copy link cos Mastodon shrinks the full url) https://www.pmo.gov.sg/googlesearch?=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thisismysitethatmakesitlooklikeyougothacked rather than just https://www.pmo.gov.sg so yeah, it wasn't even *barely* a hacking and more like making people think it was hacked.
