      Wikipedia:Wiki Workers United solidarity
We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with Wiki Workers United and affirm our willingness to engage in collective action if called upon by WWU, up to and including staging an editorial strike. Editors participating in the collective action would be able to use normal Wikipedia consensus-building methods to establish the action's terms and, if desired, to establish further demands of our own in addition to WWU's demands. This petition began as part of Wikipedia:WMF Community Tech team has been disbanded, engineers laid off, which was split off from the village pump. It began as a direct response to the Wikimedia Foundation laying off the five engineers and a manager on the Community Tech team, most of whom were members of Wiki Workers United, a prospective union at the Foundation; the Foundation had also terminated Brooke Vibber—its most influential MediaWiki developer and a prominent WWU member—a week before. This petition is a statement of solidarity with WWU. Its existence is born of these seven terminations, but at the same time it does not limit itself to that situation. The statement is one of willingness...

Yesterday, the Wikimedia Foundation declined to voluntarily recognize Wiki Workers United. Today, we launch [union needed]: an evidence-based campaign inspired by Wikipedia's [citation needed] documenting why workers organized.

We were deeply moved to learn about today's solidarity action. Thank you to everyone across the Wikimedia movement who stood with us and reminded us of the power of community. At Wikimania 2026, the theme is Freedom, Equity, Reliability - and today, volunteers across the movement demonstrated another value at the heart of Wikimedia: Solidarity.

Attached: 1 video In the past 2 months, over 1,000 #Wikimedians (and counting!) have expressed our solidarity with #WikiWorkersUnited, the #WikimediaFoundation staff union, up to and including openness to an editorial strike. Today at #Wikimania, dozens of us gathered to send a clear message to the WMF: You've said you support your workers' right to unionize; now that a supermajority of American employees have signed union cards, it's time to show that you mean it. Recognize the union without delay. #Solidarity!
