In an unexpected twist, it seems like Twitter is going to have its character limited raised to 4000. Does this mean the Mastodon Network :mastodon: is now inferior?

The answer is, of course, no. ? All microblogging software on the Mastodon Network (except for one) allows instance administrators to set a custom character limit that's larger than 500. If the demand for more characters grows, the Mastodon Network will easily adapt (except for instances using that one server software).

About quote posts, please also consider the possibilities of abuse they enable.

There are actually a few rogue instances on the Mastodon Network that have implemented quote posts. Let's take a look at the savage acts that are committed over there:

- Boosting a post with additional commentary
- Notifying people about a cool post
- Reacting to a post without the reply + self-boost pattern
