One of those wonderful mornings when the seasons are changing - an overnight hoar frost while the remnants of autumn are still around, catching the beautiful glow of the morning sun.

Autumn, or Winter?

For me, the image encapsulates both autumn & winter.

The golden leaves on this giant ancient oak tree (look at the railings for scale) are typical of late autumn in Herts, while the snow is a welcome extra not typical of the time of year.

'Enigma'

A magical evening just a few hundred metres from home. Soft golden light filtered through the trees as the forest held its breath, sharing a fleeting secret. Fog and mist are rare here, making this moment feel even more special - like nature pressing pause.

Shooting close to home lets me react quickly to moments like this. No travel is needed - magic is often right on your doorstep.

'Pinstripes'

Another image from back when I was shooting on my 4x5 field camera. I saw the snowstorm approaching, so I set the camera up as the snow passed through.

By the time it had passed to reveal just the front trees, I had time for a couple of sheets of film before the magic was lost. Provia 100, with a bit of colour correction.

"An Old Friend"

This gnarled, resilient oak feels like an old companion. I captured this photo before my illness and can’t wait to revisit it soon. It’s in a woodland I explored as a child, not far from my parents’ home—a place filled with happy memories.
