Well, I guess I ought to let you all know what I’ve been up to, and why I’ve been so quiet lately. I’m really shy about this but the time has come.

As you know, Hubby and I were in dire straits for a bit and almost had to sell our home to make ends meet. In the process of all that scrambling, and at the urging of my family and closest friends, I finally decided to show my art to the world and try to sell some of it.

I don’t have the equipment, startup money or inventory right now to make prints. And being housebound by my physical condition, I had to make my business operate completely from home. Plus I’m *really* interested in making a lower impact on this over-taxed earth. 🌏 🌱 So for now I’m selling my work as printable downloadable files that you can print out and enjoy in your home, your office, or as wallpaper on your computer desktop… No shipping, no packaging, no fuel tax, no waste. Just click and download.

Most of the art is small, the size of a postcard or slightly bigger, so they won’t take up too much of your ink or paper, but people are saying the image quality rocks (YAY!). (Results will vary depending on your printer setup & paper choice.)

I’d be so honored if you check out my little store on Payhip. ☺️ I’ve been painting for over 40 years and tend to keep it to myself because it’s more like a personal meditation practice. But honestly, it’s a joy to have the opportunity to share it with you. 🥰 I mainly paint scenes from my life and travels around Korea (where I am now), Japan (where I’ve lived for nearly 17 years) and Alaska (my birthplace). Every scene, every subject, is precious to me. Much more to come.

I just have to say, compared to 5 yrs ago when I first joined the Fediverse, there is so much creativity and expression on here now, it is a pleasure to watch this space bloom. All the ideas and innovation, the artistic interpretation, the science and education, and what’s my favorite part, people *helping* and *supporting* each other, especially in these challenging times.

You help redeem my faith in humankind.

Everyone on here is saying “run Linux.”

If it were that easy, everyone would. Speaking as a layperson who has no experience with programming, I have been actively discouraged by a friend in Infosec from using it due to its complex nature.

So, keeping my lack of computing skills in mind, what does someone like me hoping to get away from Windows and Apple need to know before getting started with Linux? And are there free resources to help me build up the skills I need to be comfortable with it after installation?

This is clearly voter suppression. If it passes the Senate, we will lose our right to vote in our home state elections! Instead, our votes will be counted under the District of Columbia (D.C.). Are you from D.C.? Are you a resident of D.C.? If not and you still have ties to your home community, let your Senators know A.S.A.P.!

DuoLingo seems hell-bent on making their app inaccessible to neurodivergent learners! Instead of losing access for the day after 5 mistakes in the free version, they now have a high-pressure ‘battery’ feature that, when it runs out (and it runs out fast mid-quiz to pressure you), you get smacked with a guilt-trippy advertisement for Super DuoLingo.

I would love it if a language app considered a low-stress platform for those of us who can’t learn well under pressure. Language learning should be fun, not increasingly stressful.
Deleting the app again.

And no, I’m not subscribing again to Super DuoLingo. I don’t care if the battery is perpetually charged. The whole pressure thing is just awful!

I understand quitting a job when your employer wants you to do something illegal or against your values. I’ve been there; I’ve quit a job once for that very reason. It’s the honorable thing to do. I get that.

But if a whole department of people, like, say, a section of a district court, or a press pool, were to all get up and leave because they were asked to do something illegal or against their morals & values, and if that creates a vacuum that will surely be filled with enablers, loyalists & sycophants who do their master’s evil bidding, won’t that make things worse? Won’t that clear the way for more wrongdoing, more theft, more lawbreaking?

And hasn’t that been the idea all along? Putting out rules and indictments so outlandish that it makes the folks with actual morals clear out of the department, leaving the riffraff behind to make more trouble unhindered?
