Lots going on in Congress and the courts! So let’s do a quick legal and political lightning round: A budget kick the can again, an imminent impeachment of a cabinet member, and Trump responds to threatened disqualification. https://open.substack.com/pub/statuskuo/p/a-political-and-legal-lightning-round?r=1zr8b&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcome=true

There were no surprises in the numbers Trump threw up in Iowa from the nation’s first GOP presidential contest. Trump crushed his challengers. But beneath the numbers, there may lie some trouble for Trump. from Jay Kuo
The week began, understandably, with reflections upon the three year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol. It was a time for sober remembrance, but also for some irony and satire. When loud, hopped-up conservative voices tried to rewrite the narrative, they got shut down appropriately.

Politics served up a bunch of memorable stories this week, despite the normally dead holiday news cycle. Adam Kinzinger casually dropped the fact that no one ever talks about the way Trump smells, apparently due to (checks notes) his inability to control his bowels. And before you protest, this apparently isn’t an age thing. It’s supposedly been going on for decades.
