Families burned out of their homes. Again.

Last night’s violence in Belfast was a racist pogrom, the third summer in a row. Green Party NI stands with every family targeted last night.

The debacle at Belfast City Council was distraction politics. 28 years of mismanagement & neglect of our political institutions & public services. Rather than deal with that we have political interference in what should be an impartial process on planning enforcement. People deserve more than this.

Distraction politics while our city crumbles. 28 years of mismanagement and people are still being let down. Northern Ireland deserves better, and so do you.

    We’re leaving X.

    Not for clicks.
    Not for politics.
For safety, democracy and basic responsibility.

We won’t stay on a platform that fails children, enables deepfake abuse and fuels disinformation.

But this is not an exit from the conversation.
It’s a move to better spaces.

    Come with us.

Labour are trying to present their plan to weaken Articles 8 and 3 of the ECHR as a harmless tweak to migration rules. It is nothing of the sort. It strikes at the foundations of peace and rights in Northern Ireland.

The Good Friday Agreement hardwires the ECHR into our settlement and was backed by voters north and south. The Windsor Framework then promised no loss of rights after Brexit. Chip away at protections on family life or the absolute ban on inhuman treatment and you are ripping through those commitments.

At the same time, the Conservatives and Reform UK want to go even further and drag the UK out of the ECHR altogether. That would dump us in the company of Russia and Belarus and tear up the agreement that underpins stability on this island.

Let’s be blunt. The ECHR is not the issue. Years of cruel, directionless asylum policy are. The Good Friday Agreement and the Windsor Framework are not optional. They are binding guarantees. Any government messing with ECHR rights is gambling with our peace and our lives.

Defend the ECHR, defend the Good Friday Agreement, and push back against every right-wing attempt to gut basic human rights, whether Labour’s “reforms” or full withdrawal.

Defending human rights and peace in Northern Ireland isn’t optional. If you want a party that will stand firm for the ECHR, the Good Friday Agreement and the Windsor Framework against every right‑wing attack, join the Greens and help draw the line: https://greenpartyni.org/join.

The far right isn’t rising because people love them.
It’s rising because the media won’t stop handing them megaphones.

Why are extremists endlessly platformed while parties offering real change are pushed to the margins?

    This isn’t balance. It’s manipulation.

Every billionaire is proof our system is broken. As hospitals struggle and schools face cuts, a tiny elite hoard unimaginable wealth. Taxing the super-rich isn’t radical - it’s common sense. Billionaires are not a sign of success but policy failure. As greens we have been calling for a wealth tax since 2017. Since then inequality has widened. Let’s tax wealth, invest in people, and build a fairer society for everyone.
