Do you realise that other parts of the world don't treat rice this way?

I grew up in Hawaii. People buy rice in 10kg bags.

People make spam musabi to put in their lunch boxes or take to the beach and eat cold the next day.

Popular fried rice dishes are typically made with left over rice.

Rice cookers have a 'warm' setting that goes for up to ten hours.

I was on holiday with friends and one had cooked a rice dish for dinner. There was some left over and she went to throw it out. I said, 'safe it for left overs tomorrow.'

She said 'you can't eat left over rice. It's not safe.'

My other friend said 'that's right, you have to eat it within 12 hours.'

They had both had a food safety course that covered this. They said it like everyone knows this.

I was astounded.

I do not have one fave but Homogenic has got to be top 5. But I skip this song nearly every time when it gets to the 45 seconds of raw screaming over tense, minimalist music - which I respect but also find really stressful.

It of course pays off at the end as it is balanced with All Is Full Of Love, the last and most mellow track on he album.

I once bought a packet of mixed colour nasturtium seeds. They happily self seeded themselves all over the place, and it's been fascinating to see ongoing genetic crosses causing all sorts of variation. I'm still seeing new phenotypes 5 years on.
