@conradhackett @politicalscience @politicaltheory @sociology it depends. So, we’ve seen what happens when a social media network ends up as majority conservative. You get Gab or Truth Social or Parler, and it evolves into conspiracy theories and, frankly, a lot of hate posts.

The fediverse seems to lean in the opposite direction, and I don’t notice the same volume of hate posts. And while having a balance would be nice, the current political climate usually means that conservatives are typically on social media just to attack left-leaning folks.

There have been some troll instances that have popped up before in the past, but they get blacklisted fairly quickly. It’s kind of the beauty of the system: most instances have pretty strong codes of conduct which preclude most trolls from joining bigger instances just a troll. And if they make their own, they just get defederated.
