Since it is in a dark room, there is a lot of contrast between the light from the window that makes the left half of the cat appear almost to glow and the shadowy right half of the cat and the composition. The overall skillfulness of the composition and the balance of light and dark make me think This was probably taken by a professional photographer.

It is quite badly blown out and white in the middle but there is dark vignetting all around the edge. The cat is the only thing clearly visible and it sits at the border between the light and dark areas. The overall effect is quite grainy and spooky like an experimental art film.
