This Halloween weekend, I have to confess once again:
It’s me, the person putting drugs in the Halloween candy 🍭

Wordpress has joined the Fediverse! Really exciting.
“The revolutionary ActivityPub feature is now available across all WordPress.com plans, unlocking a world of engagement and interaction for your blog. Your blogs can now be part of the rapidly expanding fediverse, which enables you to connect with a broader audience and attract more followers.”
girl math
@Gargron @AustinB I’m watching Dead to Me. But that one too 😂
This is a show where multiple characters become implicated in multiple criminal investigations, and there are NO LAWYERS
I’m just a girl, sitting in front of a TV, yelling at every character who speaks to the police without a lawyer
The details are horrifying. The abuse these intelligent animals suffered is bad enough. Now imagine how Neuralink would treat human test subjects or, worse, “consumers.” https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-pcrm-neuralink-monkey-deaths/
I complained a lot about missing quote tweets when I first started using Mastodon, but now I don’t miss it that much at all. It does change the nature of conversation here. It’s not worse or better—just different.
American recommendation letters: “This candidate is the most brilliant person alive. I will never in my entire life have a student as smart as this one again.”
European recommendation letters: “This person completed the requirements for my class. They are currently alive.”
@Gargron could work!
De-prioritizing news is a mistake for Threads. Twitter’s cultural relevancy was much less about celebs and brands than about news and politics. Without news and politics, you don’t get the journalists. Without journalists, no one is hyping up what’s happening on your platform!
Me posting the same dumb joke to Threads, Twitter, Bluesky, and Mastodon
What app do folks recommend for Mastodon these days?
I’ve been using Ice Cubes. I like it except that the feed doesn’t auto-refresh, so I have to manually scroll up every time I open the app. (Unless I did something wrong w/settings?)
Tip to students: If you run into a paywall trying to read an article, ask a librarian for help! Many public and school libraries have newspaper and magazine access, and some university libraries even have free subscriptions or app access for students.
Both fears and cheers for medical AI are not quite getting it. Of all the fields AI could take over, we should hope healthcare would be one of the last. We are vastly underestimating the importance of human contact in care work.
I don’t know how to explain it, but time works differently in airports. 5 minutes and 5 hours are somehow the same. Your flight is delayed but arrives early. The carpets are from 1980. The water machines are from 2045. It is always happy hour. You have always been in the airport.
I love the internet :bongoCat:
The explosion in growth for Mastodon, including among mainstream, non-tech users, is genuinely exciting. That an open-source, interoperable, nonprofit-driven protocol could reach this kind of success is incredible. The future looks bright ❤️
