I put The Everlasting, by Alix E. Harrow, on hold a while back but I didn't have the time to read it right then so I suspended the hold till the end of April and forgot about it.

Now that it's a #HugoAwards finalist, I went to put a hold on it and the system told me I already had a hold. I've just reactivated it and I am now in position number 1. (Because you climb up the hold list even while suspended.) I feel both guilty and smug.

@jeridansky @CiaraNi You can still get two beds in one room pretty easy and I think they expect kids to share. However, that gets increasingly awkward the older they get. Plus, my husband and I have bad memories of having to share beds with siblings so we try to avoid making our kids do that whenever possible. When they were younger, we would use all the extra pillows to make an impromptu mattress on the floor for one kid but it was a bit awkward.

@CiaraNi @jeridansky I completely agree there are issues with thr Airbnb model. However, regular hotels are pretty horrible for families. It’s almost impossible (in the US) to find rooms with 3 beds and connecting rooms are rarely guaranteed (plus, if you read the agreement, they want one adult in each room). Also, booking two rooms is almost always more than an Airbnb plus we don’t get a kitchen so also end up spending more on meals.

@jeridansky It was The Road Home by Rose Tremaine. I just found this website talking about it and it’s very similar to what the other book club people were saying: https://readingmattersblog.com/2008/07/06/the-road-home-by-rose-tremain/

I’m very happy I didn’t push myself to read the book club book this month. There were some positive comments about the language but it sounded like there was a lot people didn’t like.

It's that time of year where I look at a gift list, see Harry Potter is listed, and look for an alternative. Any suggestions?

    Audience:
A five-year-old girl who likes Harry Potter so I'm looking for something that's straight juvenile, not YA.

Ideally, I'd like something published within the past 10 years. I know there are great classics but there must be good new stuff also? Not just fantasy but something with similar elements (boarding school, orphan, etc).

How are regular people suppose to avoid phishing emails when legit companies send such sketchy emails?

I went downstairs to get tea and the entire time I was down there Rio was circling me like she was trying to herd me back upstairs.

If someone says something is hard for them and/or they don't have the energy to learn something new, don't argue with them. You may be invigorated by learning new tech, and that's fantastic, but not everyone is. Also, you don't have the foggiest idea how many other things they might currently be juggling.

(I realize that in most cases this is genuinely well-intentioned but please resist anyway.)
