Yes. I will cheerfully support efforts to improve this in whatever ways that I can. For now that's supporting a few servers, and Mastodon itself.

But, I do not have confidence that there is a project that really gets it. And there are still a lot of people who seem to actively want to keep things as they are because IDK it's... nerdy and exclusive or something?

Last year I insisted my CS students stop using replit & learn to run their projects in python, java on their computers. They HATED it. I felt old fashioned, didactic. "This is just a company trying to get you hooked on their service, you all know how they throttle your virtual machines just to get you to sign up? That's a bad sign."

This year a couple of them thanked me for doing this in the hall the other day. "You were right, Mrs. Futurebird*"

Though one to one functions that aren’t continuous are VERY interesting everything gets mapped somewhere every element in the set has a soulmate. Ok maybe it’s just as complex.

My running theory is the End Permian happened because the trilobites were simply too powerful. They needed to be stoped and only the worst extinction event ever with endless lava flows... the Earth split like an open wound, hyper-canes crawling the surface like the red spot of Jupiter... only all that was enough to stop those remarkable arthropods.

Japan is famous for their traditional crafts. This didn't happen magically the government designated traditional crafts in each of the 47 prefectures, over 237 in total for cultural preservation. This means providing material support, training for future craft-persons and the creation of media about these crafts... which is why you can find so many great videos about Japanese crafts.

Every nation has a legacy of crafts worth preserving. But are there the values and will to do so?

There are three things I would love to see change about the fedi... no... four really:

1. I still want to be able to quote boost.
2. Better threading or let me know WHY I can't see what post a person is replying to when I click on it.
3. A little better grouping of posts. This has been improving ... but more things like "this was boosted 5 times and 2 times by people you follow"
4. For the love of GOD that issue where you get taken to another server's page and can't do anything.

My Fediverse Advice:

* Follow more people. No, even more people than that. Basically, if you find a real person and their posts are good follow 'em
* If you get a good reply to a post boost it. If you make a good reply to a post boost it. Replies are not visible in the feed unless you do this. As long as the post is an OK start to a conversation or interesting boost it.
* Write thoughtful replies. And if you put effort into a reply boost it or probably only the people tagged will see it.

Their view counts are down. Blogs, channels, podcasts could go under and we will need them later.

If YOU need to pull back fine, but don't pull back your support too.

Also continue (or START) supporting people you know running local nonprofits.
