Happy Mastodon 4.2 release day.

In my defense it was free and only 12 minutes away (and possibly broken).

Def. broken. Powers on but then off after about 5-10 seconds. On the plus side it did come with the 1TB SSD and 64GB of OEM RAM.

I'm guessing the PSU is fried, I could probably swap it out with a known good one to make sure or just buy a new used one for $40…

Finally some relatively affordable RJ45 10GbE POE managed switches. Now just need someone to make one with a couple SFP+ ports and without the risk of burning down your house.

Looks like threads is off again (I almost said down, but it isn't Twitter) so I can't link directly to the post/thread. But I'd say this is a good commitment to being federated.

Just to be clear, this means that you'll be able to interact with folks on the Threads network, just like you can with any other instance. It doesn't mean you'll be able to use your favorite Mastodon client to log in to a Threads account. I very much doubt they're ever going to have an open API.

Threads website is sort of live? Clean, but somewhat bare. One positive thing is the domain name right after the username. Looks like the Fediverse connection isn't just talk.

I’ve seen a lot of doom and gloom about Threads and the fediverse. I don’t personally have a problem with it. More people on the network is IMO better. No algorithmic timeline means you are still following who you want to follow, gatekeeping seems silly.

The most surprising news about Tweetdeck being broken is that Tweetdeck is still alive. I know press would riot if not got killed but that sounds like even more incentive for him to kill it.
