Replaceable batteries are not a fantasy, companies just needed a legal shove. EU rules are pushing Nintendo and Amazon toward more repairable devices, from Switch hardware with replaceable batteries to signs of Kindle battery replacement kits and guides.

The internals line up almost part for part, down to the board layout, cameras, shields, cables, and battery placement. This is what a rebrand looks like when the back cover comes off.

Today, Amazon effectively kills support for older Kindles. Not because the screens stopped working. Not because the batteries all died. Because Amazon decided perfectly usable e-readers should be cut off from the services that made them useful. That is not innovation. That is forced obsolescence with a checkout button. Apple has issued an emergency recall for the new Neo laptop after discovering a critical design flaw: it’s repairable.

Internal testing revealed the device contains replaceable parts and a battery that comes out without adhesive. Unacceptable for their standards.
