NLA has a highly secured facility for Piql reels in Abu Dhabi. Government agencies and private organisations can deposit their Piql reels in NLA facility. Can opt for 2nd copy in Arctic World Archive, Norway.
Proven that synchrotron x-ray can be used to touchlessly read magnetic media. Now experimenting with reading degraded motion picture film without even need to unroll the film. It's even sitting in the can. [jaw dropping] 🤯🤯🤯
NOW: Dr Sebastian Gliga, Paul Sherrer Institute on Play It Again - Recovering audiovisual content from degraded tapes and films with synchroton X-rays. Also motion pictures from degraded films (!!)

@notclacke for touchlessly reading magnetic media, there should be quite a few articles out there since this was first done in 2024. For the motion picture part, that's new. There were audible gasp in the theatre at #JTS2026. I am looking forward to see further development on this.
