A dozen or so University of Minnesota Police officers wearing riot gear and holding batons have been standing in the lobby of the Graduate Hotel as a noise demonstration occurs outside protesting ICE agents who are reportedly staying there. On Sunday afternoon at the Whipple Federal Building in Minnesota, Don Nygaard, a 74-year-old former Marine, was detained for protesting ICE.

NEW: Over a thousand protesters visited two hotels in downtown Minneapolis on Friday night, equipped with loud noise makers, in an attempt to disrupt the sleep of any ICE officers who may be staying in the hotels. 30 were arrested.

NEW: An elder man was shot with pepper balls and arrested by federal agents after protesting ICE in the driveway of the Whipple Federal Building around 2 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2026. The man's car was driven into the parking lot by a DHS agent and then a tow truck came and took the car away. The Whipple Building near the MSP-Intl Airport is where ICE holds immigrant detainees and protesters.
