“I can't do much to address the cause of our collective displeasure, but I have a tried-and-true method for easing the symptoms: Drive less. You'll enjoy it more.” -a new year’s resolution from an Autoblog columnist (!) https://www.autoblog.com/2023/01/01/reduce-car-trips-opinion/
Count me as one among many bike guys who were car guys (and still kind of are), but realized that the fantasy is not reality (and if it was, isn’t sustainable).
I want to drive around in an EV-converted Triumph TR-6 - still - but “I want” doesn’t make it a great idea, or one that society should subsidize me doing.
@jedsetter the far less splashy sexy way to improve ped safety is to demand systematic action plans (and resources) that standardize infrastructure design, deploy it through both proactive programs that prioritize known safety hazards and underserved communities, and reactive programs like repaving and development. @davidzipper
@jedsetter From the finite insufficient efforts that go into walking infrastructure, the guerilla crosswalkers are drawing those resources away from some other place where those resources would be working otherwise. I am not comfortable equating "everyone walking" with "the most marginalized people in a community," particularly in Seattle. @davidzipper
